- Claim: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was caught on a hot mic about Saline, MI data center:
- UNCERTAIN/MISSING CONTEXT: The video which allegedly catches Gov. Whitmer saying “We’re used to people saying f*** no, and doing it anyway” was found to be a legitimate video taken while talking with Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk. When listening to the video you can hear Whitmer say the phrase but the context of the coversation is unclear. Whitmer and Magouyrk have denied these claims and allege the video has been altered.
- Claim: Windmills are being taken down south of Mt. Pleasant due to cost of operation:
- UNFOUNDED: Only source that claimed that windmills were being taken down due to cost was posted on TikTok by Paul Robb without any sources cited only stating generalized claims in the caption with a video of a set of windmill blades stationary on a crane.
- Related information: Part of the Isabella County windmill project agreement with Apex Clean Energy is the removal of windmills when they reach the end of their life and the resoration of the environment surrounding the old windmill. This is established through the Decommissioning Agreement and Bond.
- Question: Pay-per-mile tax for electric vehicles only or apply to gas powered cars?
- CLARIFICATION: The pay per mile tax would apply to all vehicles and would replace the 52.4 cent tax on gasoline. There is a pilot program set to take place in February 2027 with 1,000 willing participants to see how this program would opperate before being implemented.
- Gas prices shoot up 30 cents in MI after oil refinery loses power.
- CLARIFICATION: ExxonMobil’s Joilet refinery located in Illinois was knocked offline after it lost power Sunday, September 13. This refinery produces 11 million gallons of gasoline and diesel daily.
- Claim: Democratic candidate, Jocelyn Benson’s husband earned millions from a data center to support the construction of the Saline data center.
- UNFOUNDED: This claim was first pushed in an ad published by the Mission Michigan SuperPAC in support of John James and alleges that Benson’s husband could make about $70 million for the project. The company Benson’s husband worked for, Related Companies, says that he did not make commission off the Saline data center and that he is no longer assoicated with the project although he did vouch for the construction of the data center.
- Claim: Republican candidate for Governor, John James took money from data centers for his campaign.
- FACT (SORT OF): John James did recieve donations from the Rakolta family that is associated with Walbridge a construction firm based out of Detroit that worked on the Saline data center. A combined $97,200 was donated to James in two of his previous elections for US House and Senate but the amounts donated in the 2026 elections have not been disclosed.
